IRELAND’S National Coarse Fishing Federation of Ireland will present a number ofl teams on the World Stage in 2017 and has invited interested anglers, experienced in the various disciplines, to apply to join the squads.
Senior Float Team – Vincent Walsh is looking forward to his first full year as senior float manager. Elected to take over from Mark Theedom in 2016 Vincent who took a team to the Home Internationals in England in October and has represented Ireland at many championships himself, is keen to select his international squad of 2017.
Anglers will be selected to form a team for each of the following events:
European Championships, Italy 20 & 21 May
World Championships, Belgium 9 & 10 September
Home Internationals, Scotland, October TBC
The Float teams are sponsored by Tubertini UK along with Van Den Eynde and Irish Bait & Tackle and competitors receive funding from the NCFFI towards their travel expenses. The NCFFI invites anglers interested in forming a new Veterans team to represent Ireland at the 10th World Championships on the Tisza River, Kanjiza, Serbia to contact vice chairman Jack Tisdall on 00 44 (0) 2866 347692 or email@example.com. The proposal is for a five-man team to take part in four days’ practise and two days’ competition leaving Ireland on June 3, returning on June11. This event is not funded and costs are estimated at around €1,500 dependant on sponsorship.
It’s going to be an exciting year for Feeder fishing and the NCFFI is delighted to announce that Brenton Sweeney will serve his second term as Ireland’s Feeder Team manager. Brenton who led the 2014 team to their historic Silver medal win on Inniscarra Lake invites anglers interested in a place on the Feeder Team to represent Ireland at the World Championships in Portugal on June 24 and 25 to apply by contacting him on 00 353 (0) 87 251 0260 or Brenton.Sweeney@live.com. Entry closes on January 31. Fishing the feeder is gaining in popularity and FIPS-ed have set the first edition of a World Championships for clubs to take place this March. Details of a qualifying event for the selection of the team to represent Ireland at the 2018 championships will be released soon along with other feeder fishing events.
Youth Team Ireland manager Jack Tisdall and his assistant Shane Kavanagh are preparing the 2017 squad for the World Youth Angling Championships to take place on home soil. With five-man teams entered for each category, U15, U20 and U25 and monthly practise to attend as well as a full week’s training on Inniscarra in July, they have their work cut out ahead of the championships in August and appeal to experienced anglers who may be available to help to get in touch. Jack will step down from his three-year term this year and sees this as an ideal opportunity for a potential successor to get involved. In the meantime, qualifiers for the 2018 team selection will take place over two weekends in June and September. Further details and venues will be confirmed shortly.
