IRELAND netted a double gold at the 33rd World Shore Angling Championships held on the beaches of Wexford last week.
The Irish Federation of Sea Anglers welcomed 18 countries, 250 competitors and 100 officials for the event. The Irish men’s team came out on top over the four days. They held first place on days one and two and fell back to second for day three but fought back on the final day. Alan Mulcahy won an individual gold and Ulster’s Harry McKee took silver. The English team took second place and Spain was third.
The Irish ladies team took first place after the first day against the ten other ladies teams. They then held onto gold position for the remaining three days. Ulster’s Lisa Gormley claimed an individual silver medal. The Croatian team took second place and the Netherlands was third.
